I fell in love with cooking as a little girl, sitting on the counter, helping Mom cook. That shared love of cooking is what this blog is all about. I want this to be a place where we can all share and learn from each other all our favorite recipes, kitchen tips, and more. From how to fry an egg to Grandma's tried and true classics to your favorite olive oil. I hope everyone enjoys the blog, has fun with it, and will contribute your own ideas.

Jeff's Spaghetti with Awesome Sauce

This is an original Jeff recipe. It is the best spaghetti I have EVER had and that includes any I have had at a restaurant. So good. I warn you- this makes a LOT of sauce. Jeff likes to have wayyyy too much sauce so he thinks this is perfect. I would either double the noodles and make enough to feed an army.. or cut the canned ingredients and the beef amounts in half to make less sauce.

From: Jeff
1 package spaghetti noodles
2 jars sliced mushrooms
2 cans tomato sauce (not the small cans- regular size)
2 cans diced tomatoes
2 small cans tomato paste
Spaghetti sauce mix
2 lbs. Ground beef
½ onion- diced
1 bell pepper- diced

Cook noodles according to package directions.

In a large pot, sautee' onions and peppers until softened. Then add ground beef and cook until brown.
Drain the mixture.
Add tomato sauce, tomato sauce mix, mushrooms, diced tomatoes, and tomato paste to meat mixture.
Stir together, cover and let simmer on low for 15-20 minutes. (the longer it simmers the better it will taste)

When pasta is cooked to your prefered texture, drain and set aside.

Once sauce is heated through pour over noodles, toss well, and serve while hot.

*NOTES* Jeff doesn't like to cook the noodles until the sauce is almost done because he likes to let the sauce simmer. If you cook the noodles too early, they are sitting there in a pot getting dry and rubbery while the sauce is simmering. Yuck.

*REMINDER: any recipe that calls for ground beef you can substitute ground turkey for a healthier option and you will never tell the difference. Promise.

  1. YES. In fact, the last time we made this I'm pretty sure we used ground turkey, and it was better!
